Football enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting the highlight of the week: the group stage draw for the 2026 World Cup, scheduled for this Friday in Washington, with the proceedings set to kick off at 17:00 GMT. This much-anticipated event will determine the opponents for the teams competing in this historic edition of the tournament.
This edition marks a significant milestone, as it will feature nine African nations for the very first time, following FIFA's expansion of the tournament from 32 to 48 teams.
The African teams already qualified are: Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cape Verde, and South Africa.
DR Congo, meanwhile, is hoping to secure Africa's tenth spot via the intercontinental play-offs, which will decide the final qualifiers for the tournament.
