ONE – SATURDAY 22 MARCH 1924 – Celtic’s miserable year of 1924 continues with a 0-1 defeat to Raith Rovers at Stark’s Park. It is a good Raith side, but Celtic’s play has been poor all season, never having recovered from the loss of both central defenders Johnny Gilchrist and Willie Cringan, both of whom fell foul of the despotic Willie Maley.

John Divers scored twice
TWO – SATURDAY 22 MARCH 1941 – Life is not going at well for Great Britain in the Second World War at the moment, and Celtic are struggling without Jimmy Delaney whose broken arm is taking an incredibly long time to heal. Today however they record a 3-1 victory over Airdrie at Celtic Park with two goals from Johnny Divers and one from Matt Lynch.

Bobby Lennox scored twice
THREE – MONDAY 22 MARCH 1965 – A significant result tonight, although no-one realises it at the time. Celtic go down 2-4 to Hibs at Celtic Park with all the goals coming in the first half. Hibs then play superbly in the second half to deny Celtic. Jock Stein, until recently the Manager of Hibs, watches and decides that Bobby Murdoch who had played at right half on Saturday against Dundee, is no inside right and that right half will be his position from now on. Bobby Lennox scored Celtic’s two goals.

Jimmy Johnstone scored
FOUR – SATURDAY 22 MARCH 1969 – Celtic surprise their supporters in the 48,349 crowd for this Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden by appearing in all-white (some of us at the top of the high East Terracing think that it is Morton, the opposition!) and then shock them by losing an early goal in this first minute. Soon however normal service is restored and goals by Willie Wallace, Billy McNeill, Steve Chalmers and Jimmy Johnstone give Celtic a comfortable victory all the more necessary for their supporters who were still smarting from their defeat by A.C.Milan in the European Cup some ten days previously.

FIVE – WEDNESDAY 22 MARCH 2006 – The Scottish League Cup, won on Sunday at Hampden, is tonight paraded at Celtic Park with green and white ribbons by Mrs Agnes Johnstone, widow of the late Jimmy, and then Celtic take another step towards the Scottish Premier League with a 2-1 win over Inverness Caledonian Thistle with goals from Steve McManus and Shaun Maloney. Inverness’s consolation goal is a last minute howler from Artur Boruc.
