With the way the trio of Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, and Lamine Yamal is playing this season for Barcelona, it is very difficult for any other attacking player to get even a sniff at Hansi Flick’s starting eleven.
This is quite clear from how one of the substitutes, Ferran Torres, has been performing. The Spaniard has been highly effective in the scarce minutes he is getting to play this season, as he takes full advantage of these minutes to get on the scoresheet as much as possible.
Only in the last game against Las Palmas, he got on the pitch with only 5 minutes left in regulation time, but was able to add another goal to his tally in extra time.
With this performance in the Canary Islands, SPORT reports that Torres has made another strong case for a start, and thus, he is likely to start either in tonight’s game against Atletico Madrid or on Sunday, in the league game against Real Sociedad.
The goal he scored against Las Palmas allowed him to equal his best scoring record with Barcelona, i.e., 11 goals, which he scored last season.
This season, he is already the third-highest scorer in the Blaugrana squad, only behind Lewandowski and Raphinha, and also has the best scoring average, as he scores every 86 minutes, which is better than Lewandowski’s average of scoring every 87th minute and Pablo Torre’s 93 minutes.
Now, he will be looking to beat his career’s best numbers, something he can do in the coming few games. He scored 13 goals in the 2020-21 season when he was playing at Manchester City. Having already scored 11 goals, he needs only 3 more goals to take his tally beyond this figure.
Hopefully, he will get nearer to this number if he gets to start one of the upcoming two games, while also helping Barcelona get a win against these difficult opponents.
