Newcastle United are preparing for an intense season in 2025/26. Qualification for the UEFA Champions League has raised expectations, and the club do not want to fail in their attempt to consolidate their position among the big teams. In recent seasons, the team have made solid progress. They went from fighting at the bottom of the table to winning a domestic cup. Their progress would not have been possible without intelligent investment, a strong manager like Eddie Howe and a group of committed players. Now it is time to strengthen the squad to face a demanding schedule.
The team have managed to build a strong foundation, but the lack of offensive depth still remains a glaring problem. Alexander Isak has carried much of the scoring burden, but in a season with the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup and EFL Cup, a single striker is not enough. The coaching staff know that they need a player who can add goals, mobility across the frontline and a strong attacking presence. That is why they have set their sights on a Premier League player who has been shining.

According to Belgian journalist Sébastien Vidal, Newcastle United are getting closer to signing Yoane Wissa. The 28-year-old Brentford striker had an outstanding season with 25 G/A in 2024/25. The player is keen on the move, especially because of the chance to play in the Champions League and compete for titles.
Wissa has grown a lot in recent years. He has pace, a powerful shot at his disposal and moves well between the lines. He can play on the wing or as a centre forward, which offers tactical options. For Newcastle United, Wissa would be an ideal option both to start games and to break down tight defences from the bench. His footballing maturity has come at just the right time, and the Magpies are aware of it.
Wissa will be a good choice of striker for Newcastle United. In a 4-3-3 formation, which Howe often uses, Wissa could play on the left wing, with Isak as the number nine and Gordon on the other wing. He could also directly replace Isak without the attack losing its sting. The DR Congo international has physical presence, X-factor and knows how to press and move without the ball, qualities that are highly valued at Newcastle.
In addition, his experience in the Premier League gives him an immediate advantage. Wissa will not need time to adapt, and with a busy season ahead, rotation will be key. Isak has had physical problems, and having someone as complete as Wissa would help maintain competitiveness.
Newcastle United must close the deal as soon as possible. Tottenham also want him and could hinder negotiations. However, if the Magpies make a move quickly, they could secure a player who fits perfectly into their project.
