FLW’s Rovers fan pundit has commented on which players he expects to see leave Ewood Park at the end of the season.
Blackburn Rovers are continuing to fight their way out of relegation trouble and avoid the dreaded League One trapdoor come the end of the season.
Rovers made it two games unbeaten last weekend, backing up their 2-1 win away at Millwall with a goalless draw against fellow promotion contenders Middlesbrough at Ewood Park, chalking another point up that could be vital to securing their Championship safety.
That result puts Blackburn 19th in the Championship standings on 43 points, but the pressure continues to be ramped up due to the excellent recent form of West Brom, who have gone on a four-game unbeaten run themselves under interim boss James Morrison.
Blackburn remain just four points above the dotted line with seven games to go of the campaign, with this relegation tussle expected to go right down to the wire.
All connected with Rovers will be hopeful that the club can battle their way through to survival by May, and after that, the club will have to decide on a number of their players’ futures, with contracts expiring and interest emerging from other clubs ahead of the next summer transfer window.
And with this in mind, FLW’s Blackburn Rovers fan pundit has commented on which players he can see Rovers losing this coming summer.

Speaking to Football League World, Blackburn Rovers fan pundit Simon Middlehurst believes Sondre Tronstad, Balazs Toth and Todd Cantwell will all depart Ewood Park this coming summer, with the trio’s contract situations an issue for the Lancashire-based side to resolve when they are yet to know which division they will playing in next season.
Simon told FLW: “Three players spring to mind. The first one is Sondre Tronstad. Obviously, he’s out for the rest of the season, but his contract is also up at the end of the season, and it’s well reported that his family haven’t settled in the UK as well as they hoped, so I think he will be leaving at the end of the season to go back to Norway or Scandinavia.
“Also, Balazs Toth. Another player who is out of contract at the end of the season. While being at Blackburn, he’s broken into the Hungary side and there’s no doubt he’ll want to carry that as well. If we do get relegated, he’s going to want to play at a higher level to increase his chances of playing for the national squad as well.
“Todd Cantwell is another player looking at being out of contract at the end of the season. We’ve also offered him another contract. I don’t think he’s signed it either, so that’s another one.
“But with Cantwell, he’s on quite high wages for Blackburn, so if he did go, that would be a big chunk of the wage bill we can save on.”

Blackburn Rovers will have to brace themselves for some first-team departures this summer, with some exits coming as a bigger blow than others.
One that will desperately hurt is that of Sondre Tronstad, with the 2024-25 Player of the Year such a reliable and consistent figure up until requiring a full ACL reconstruction at the beginning of March, ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign.
Paired with the fact that Tronstad doesn’t want to discuss an extension because, according to head of football operations Rudy Gestede, the midfielder’s future is "not in this country", means it is almost a certainty that he will be playing his football away from Ewood Park when he returns to full fitness.
Meanwhile, Todd Cantwell does seem another likely exit from Ewood Park, and one face Blackburn supporters may well be pleased to see the back of due to constant injury complaints.
The former Norwich City man has missed 14 games this season due to different niggles, while notching just four goals all term - stats that are just not up to par for one of their more creative attacking outlets.
You could argue Balazs Toth’s future is dependent on whether Blackburn remain in the second tier, with the 28-year-old seemingly having to play Championship football at a minimum to keep racking up national appearances on a regular basis.
Of course, the number of exits for Blackburn will hinge on whether the club is playing Championship or League One
