Aaron Ramsey has been recalled to the Wales squad ahead of their upcoming matches against Belgium and England, following an absence of more than a year.

Former Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey hasn’t played for Wales since September 2024, but a large part of that absence was due to injury.

Multiple hamstring setbacks left Ramsey unavailable for most of the recent international breaks, but he was fit and available when he was excluded for the September break this year.

Perhaps there might have been some concern that the 34-year-old’s international career was drawing to a close, but he’s now been included in the Wales squad for October.

Ramsey currently plays for UNAM Pumas in Mexico, and he’s appeared in their last six matches consecutively.

The club are clearly being careful with him, only starting him in three of those six games, but it’s more appearances in a row than he’s managed at any point since his last outing for Wales.

The last time Ramsey managed to play more than six club games in a row was February 2023, for OGC Nice.

Ramsey has opened his goalscoring account with Pumas, scoring a late winner against Atlas, but his team have been on a mixed run – winning two, drawing two, and losing two with their new signing on the pitch.

The former Gunner will hope for more success with Wales, as they play a friendly against England on Thursday, October 9th followed by a World Cup qualifier against Belgium on Monday, October 13th.

Wales’ World Cup qualification group is very tight at the top, with just a few games left. As it stands, Wales sit third with 10 points, needing to finish first to qualify or second to make the play-offs.

But group leaders North Macedonia are only on 11 points, whilst Belgium are on 10 with a game in hand. A win for Wales over Belgium and a draw between the other two in the other game would see Ramsey’s side leading the group by the end of the October break.
