Liverpool missed out on the signing of Marc Guehi right at the end of the summer transfer window.
Guehi, 25, signed off on a £35m deal that would have taken him from Crystal Palace to Anfield but his club pulled the plug at the 11th hour.

Owing to a failure to land a replacement - with Igor Julio moving from Brighton to West Ham instead - Palace told Guehi he was going nowhere.

The decision arguably leaves the Reds one player light at centre-back for the season ahead but they will have another chance to land the England man in January.
Losing out on Guehi has not stopped links with other central defenders however. Now Caught Offside is claiming that the Reds have got a keen interest in Brentford captain Nathan Collins.
It’s not the first time Collins, 24, has been mooted as a potential Liverpool target - with Tottenham and Manchester United also reported to be impressed by the Ireland vice captain.
Collins joined the Bees back in 2023 from Wolves for around £23m - and was handed the captain’s armband by new manager Keith Andrews for the 2025/26 season.
Spurs are thought to be leading the race for Collins - who is under contract at the Gtech Community Stadium until 2029 - owing to the presence of his former Brentford boss Thomas Frank.
But Liverpool have shown their pulling power this summer - and could beat Spurs to the punch when the time comes to bid for Collins.
“Liverpool have also shown interest, though their approach has been more measured,” the report reads.
“Collins is on their shortlist of defensive targets, but the Anfield hierarchy have yet to move forward with a formal bid.”
The report also adds that it would require around €50m (£43m) to land the Irishman.
Guehi is clearly the No1 focus for sporting director Richard Hughes at centre-back but there is bound to be a clamour for his signature next summer if he is a free agent.
