Chelsea are still looking for a left winger, with Jadon Sancho having left the club and negotiations for Jamie Gittens so far having not worked out.

One of the targets who has been mentioned pretty regularly for 6 months is Alejandro Garnacho, but today’s news isn’t exactly promising in that direction.

CaughtOffside today claim that Man United are asking for £70m for their winger. That’s a hell of a lot of money for a player who is talented but has basically failed to make the expected impact since breaking through.

United have also undermined their own bargaining position by making it clear that they don’t have any interest in keeping Garnacho around, as Fabrizio Romano claimed last week. The other teams interested in signing him – Atletico Madrid, Napoli, Leverkusen and so on, won’t be offering anything close to that.

Given Gittens is available for something like £60m, we’re sure Chelsea would rather up their offer to Dortmund than spend this silly money on Garnacho. For now, this option feels off the table. We may have to wait for later in the window for Man U to get serious.

Chelsea’s talented teenagers not quite ready yet

There is a world where Chelsea end up not signing a left winger, which would mean relying heavily on Tyrique George and Estevao Willian. Even if Pedro Neto was on one side and Noni Madueke the other, the youngsters would be needed a lot.

Many Blues fans would love to see that, but we suspect the club would conclude that neither is experienced enough to be a regular in the Premier League and Champions League next season.

But who knows – if teams keep charging these crazy prices, maybe we’ll be forced to give it a punt?
