Manchester United secured a convincing 5-2 victory over Leicester City in the Carabao Cup fourth round on Wednesday.
The Red Devils needed a strong response after a disappointing 2-1 Premier League loss at West Ham United last weekend.
Interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy made a few changes to the starting XI and the players responded with a superb attacking display.
The Foxes were far from their full strength and United capitalised on the opportunity with a dazzling performance at home.
United captain Bruno Fernandes had his best half of the campaign at West Ham. He was very unlucky in the end.
In our opinion, the Portuguese star had his best game of the season last night with a goal in either half for the Red Devils.
Casemiro stole the headlines with his stunning 30-yard strike to open the scoring. He was the man of the match for his brace.
However, Fernandes was equally good. He bagged his first goal of the campaign after 36 shots as his free-kick was deflected into the net.
The 30-year-old put the Red Devils into a 3-1 lead after capitalising on a poor backpass. He rounded the goalkeeper for a straightforward tap-in.
Aside from his two goals, Fernandes had 78 touches with a 86 percent pass accuracy. He won six duels with a 100 percent aerial success rate.
The midfielder also made seven recoveries while creating four chances for his teammates.
Fernandes had a wonderful outing against the Foxes and the fans will be anticipating a similar showing against Chelsea at the weekend.
United are currently 14th in the league standings with 11 points from nine games. They are already seven points adrift of the top-four positions.
Sunday’s clash against Chelsea is a must-win to avoid losing further ground. Fernandes has had a good record versus the Blues in the past.
He had scored in two of the last four meetings and could be key to beating the London outfit.
