Chelsea’s desire to keep adding talents to their squad never ends, and right now they’ve got Aston Villa attacker Morgan Rogers in their sights.
The Blues made some moves this summer, dumping Jadon Sancho, selling Noni Madueke and Christopher Nkunku, but for all the young talent they added, there’s still a sense that they can improve more.

Rogers had a sensation season last time out, hitting double figures in goals and assists and ultimately winning the PFA Young Player of the Year award. Things have not been nearly as bright for him this time out – Villa are struggling and Rogers is seriously struggling as a part of that.
With sporting director Monchi departing earlier this month, there’s a real sense that the project there is starting to unravel, and we can imagine star players like Rogers starting to push to leave if things continue to go badly. His long term friendship with Cole Palmer means Chelsea are often suggested as a destination.
However it’s not going to be easy – CaughtOffside are reporting that Aston Villa want £80m for their attacker. That’s by no means an impossible price for us to pay, and the fact that he’s still 23 means that he’s within the range of ages our transfer team prefer to target.
But it’s a lot, and it’s hard to see us buying him at that level without a major sale. January moves are always hard to pull off, but Villa sold notable first team stars in the winter window this year and could do it again.
We reckon it would take Nicolas Jackson’s loan to Bayern becoming permanent for this to happen – and that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen anytime soon. So we have to be patient.
