A decade on from Leicester City’s 5000-1 Premier League triumph, memories of the 2015/16 miracle remain vivid under Claudio Ranieri. Top at Christmas, they never blinked.
According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, even a 3-1 win at Manchester City in February did not silence doubts. Alan Shearer warned pressure could bite, while Ian Wright backed them to finish.
Ranieri dismissed bookmaker chatter and tried to shift the focus onto Tottenham, naming City, Arsenal and Spurs as the real contenders. He insisted he did not trust odds that once had him favourite for the sack.
Arsenal surged when Danny Welbeck struck on Valentine’s Day to cut the gap to two points, then back-to-back defeats stalled them. Arsene Wenger later admitted regret and praised champions who lost only three league games.
The Battle of the Bridge proved pivotal as Tottenham let a 2-0 lead slip at Chelsea and the title went to Leicester. Before that, Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard had favoured a Foxes triumph, drawing a rebuke from Graham Roberts.
N’Golo Kante was hailed by Thierry Henry as the signing of the season, then soon joined Chelsea after his release clause was triggered. Jamie Vardy hit 24 league goals and scored in 11 straight matches, despite Michael Owen questioning his finishing. Riyad Mahrez added 17 goals and 10 assists.
Not every signing landed. Gokhan Inler arrived after Esteban Cambiasso’s exit and, despite lofty hopes from Ranieri, made five league appearances before joining Besiktas in Türkiye.
