Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank believes his team delivered ‘a good performance’ in their 2-1 Premier League loss to Liverpool on Saturday.

They were reduced to 10 men in the 33rd minute when Xavi Simons was dismissed for a foul on Virgil van Dijk following a VAR review.

Liverpool broke the deadlock early in the second half after Alexander Isak left the bench to finish coolly past Guglielmo Vicario.

The Swede injured himself in the process and was replaced by Jeremie Frimpong

Spurs came close to levelling the scores when Randol Kolo Muani hit the bar, but the visitors doubled their lead in the 66th minute.

Richarlison revived hopes of a comeback when he scored within minutes of his introduction, but Cristian Romero’s dismissal scuppered their chances.

Reacting to their seventh top-flight defeat this season, Frank said: “I think overall it was a good performance tonight, proud of the players and the team and how they responded.

“I actually think the first 30 minutes was also good from us and how we responded to setbacks through the game, something we have been working very hard on, because that is the biggest thing the best teams need to do.

“How do we respond to setbacks during a game because the best teams deal with it and move on and keep going, stick to the plan, we talked about it before, structure and everything. Today we did that excellently.”

The defeat will raise more questions over Frank’s future at the club. The Danish boss currently retains the support of the club’s hierarchy, but their stance could change if he doesn’t deliver results soon.

Tottenham will face Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park next weekend.
