Here it is then, the Newcastle United big moment.
Have you ever fancied going to hide in a cave for a couple of weeks?
You know those people, the ones who can’t watch when Newcastle United are taking a penalty, that is how I feel.
I wish I was waking up on the morning of Thursday 6 February and it was sorted.
Starting tomorrow, Newcastle United have a key 12 days spell which I have a very strong feeling, could make or break our season.
Away at rock bottom Southampton, home to mid-table Fulham, then Arsenal at St James’ Park with Newcastle United kicking off that game with a 2-0 lead.
What could possibly go wrong???
It is the natural inclination of pretty much all fanbases to become convinced that the fates will conspire against you and your football club, on the brink of something really good, Newcastle United will find some way to not carry it through.
This is where we are at.
Wins against Southampton and Fulham would put United in a seriously strong position with only 14 Premier League games remaining. Newcastle would be guaranteed to be top five as a minimum, very likely top four, maybe even a chance of ahead of current third placed Forest, not inconceivable they could lose at Bournemouth this weekend and then home to Brighton the following weekend. I don’t think that will happen BUT if Newcastle United do their part of it and win the two PL games, then why not?
Bottom line is that Newcastle United find their destiny in their own hands/feet, the nine wins in the last ten matches have given us this brilliant platform in all three competitions, especially Premier League and League Cup.
With the Premier League all but guaranteed a fifth place in the Champions League, wins over Southampton and Fulham would be massive.
Plus of course, they would help send Newcastle United into that Arsenal cup semi-final second leg full of renewed confidence and momentum. With that brilliant performance and result meaning Newcastle go into it 2-0 up, it really is a huge opportunity to return to Wembley, only 25 months after that 2023 final.
Lets get the job done in these upcoming 12 days, so I can emerge from my cave on that Thursday morning (6 February), worrying about whether I will be getting a ticket for the cup final and with another eye on possible/likely Champions League qualification…
