One player who has been linked with a potential move away from Manchester City in recent days is Spanish midfielder Nico. It is no surprise to see players from City linked with potential exits from the club given the fact that players will have to leave the club this summer. But there is little sense in one of those players being Nico given the fact he has only been at the club for six months. The Spanish midfielder also figures to have an important role to play for Pep Guardiola’s side next season.

But today, a new report from Fabrizio Romano indicates that Nico could leave Manchester City this summer. That was quickly followed by a report from Simon Bajkowski for the Manchester Evening News indicating that Nico is expected to remain at City for next season. It would seem that the Spanish midfielder won’t be leaving the Etihad after all.

Nico was once again linked with a move away from Manchester City but that report was quickly rebuffed.

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Manchester City would sanction the sale of Nico if an attractive offer came in for the midfielder. But following Romano’s initial report a quick rebuttal to that report from Simon Bajkowski.

Simon Bajkowski has reported for the Manchester Evening News that Nico is expected to be a part of Manchester City’s squad for next season. Furthermore, Bajkowski reports that Nico is expected to report to Manchester City training at the end of July and that City are not looking to sell the Spanish midfielder.

Lastly, Spanish journalist Xavi Espinosa reports that Nico’s intention is to remain at Manchester City. Furthermore, Espinosa reports that Nico will join City training at the end of July.

Thoughts.

As written previously, there is little to no sense in City selling Nico this summer. Based on Simon Bajkowski and Xavi Espinosa’s reports that won’t be happening. Their reports paint a clear picture that Nico will have a role to play in Pep Guardiola’s squad next season. That isn’t a major surprise given the flashes of quality that Nico has shown since arriving at the club. The hope is that he can develop into a quality player for Manchester City. There has been nothing to suggest that the Spanish midfielder won’t. He just needs to adjust to Pep Guardiola’s demands. Nico also needs to play in his preferred position. He is more of a number eight rather than a six. If he can play in that position it should bring out his best next season.

What isn’t in doubt is that players will leave Manchester City this summer. Who will leave isn’t immediately clear. But it would appear that Nico won’t be one of them. He looks set to have a role in Pep Guardiola’s squad next season. The hope is that the rumours that surround his future are now put to bed.
