Pep Guardiola says it was a proud day for the Heskey family with former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker Emile Heskey’s two sons both playing for the Man City first team against Huddersfield.

City beat League One Huddersfield 2-0 thanks to goals from Phil Foden and Savinho to progress to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup, where they will take on Swansea City away.

Guardiola gave first-team opportunities to a number of youngsters for the clash, including Jaden Heskey and Reigan Heskey, both sons of Emile, who made 516 Premier League appearances across his career.

“We know that today, six players for the academy make the starting 11,” Guardiola said.

“Two more came on, the brothers from Heskey. I think the Heskey father and mother will be so proud of the kids.

“So eight players for the academy played today, so that’s really cool and really good.”

Guardiola also praised the performance of Phil Foden, and suggested he may continue to play more of his football in a more central position having impressed there recently.

“Yeah, absolutely,” Guardiola said when asked if Foden prefers a central position. “Very close to the box. I think he played in the pockets perfectly but when he plays a little bit free and close to the box, he gives you something that is unique.”
