Aarón Escandell has been a rare bright spot in Real Oviedo’s troubled season, and he has left his future open while stressing his focus is on survival amid links to Valencia.
According to Superdeporte, the Valencian goalkeeper has impressed despite the goals conceded, keeping Oviedo in matches and shining against stronger opponents. His form has fuelled talk of a move, particularly if relegation, which currently looks likely, is confirmed.
Speaking on Thursday, Escandell said he is not thinking about a transfer, only the day to day and enjoying his football despite the circumstances. He acknowledged he does not know what will happen, noted he has a contract at Oviedo and is happy, and made clear his priority is to keep the club up. He added this is not the time to discuss his future and that this does not mean he intends to leave.
Meanwhile, Valencia must decide how to handle their goalkeeping department for next season. Neither Julen, who is on loan, nor Dimitrievski, whose deal expires, is yet confirmed for the next campaign.
Dimitrievski is likely to continue given a two-year renewal clause in his contract, and his performances since becoming first choice have been strong.
