Aaron Ramsey has been handed a major setback as the new Oxford United head coach
Oxford United are planning for life in League One after suffering relegation from the Championship.
The U’s finished 22nd in the second tier, with the team coming four points adrift of safety in their second campaign back at that level.
The club will be keen to get in the mix for promotion from the third tier next season, and Aaron Ramsey has been tasked with that challenge.
The former Arsenal midfielder has taken on his first step into management, becoming the new head coach following Matt Bloomfield’s exit at the end of the season.
The 35-year-old will be hoping to make a strong first impression as a coach, with his only previous experience coming when he was caretaker boss at Cardiff City for three games.
With the players back for pre-season, Ramsey will be counting down the days until his first game in charge, which comes at home against MK Dons on 15 August.

It has been reported by journalist Tom Burrows that Oxford have been placed under a temporary transfer embargo.
The club will not be allowed to register any new players while this remains in place, which will come as a huge blow for Ramsey.
The League One side will need to resolve the matter before the embargo is lifted, with the club being punished in relation to the league’s Salary Cost Management Protocol (SCMP).
Under the rules, clubs must prove that they can afford their planned playing budget for the campaign ahead.
However, it’s believed that Oxford have been unable to provide evidence of this, which has led to them being handed a temporary transfer restriction.
The U’s have already completed the signings of Nik Prelec, Frankie Kent and Ruben Rooksen this summer.
Oxford United fans have understandably responded quite negatively to this development, particularly as this isn’t the first time they’ve been handed this punishment in recent years.
They are disappointed that this has happened again, despite promises that it was a one-off incident.
The club’s CEO Tim Williams has received the brunt of the criticism, with many suggesting he should be relieved of his duties.
Meanwhile, some supporters are optimistic that this will just be a temporary measure, and that it will be resolved quickly, even if it is an embarrassment.
The transfer window runs until 1 September, but it remains to be seen for how long Oxford will be under an embargo.

Ramsey will be incredibly disappointed for this to happen at the beginning of his reign as head coach.
He would’ve taken on the role with assurances that the club’s financial outlook is in good health, and that no issues were on the horizon.
Being unable to improve the squad for the time being will be a big distraction for the League One side, and this matter needs to be resolved pronto.
The fans have been massively let down, particularly as this isn’t even the first time this has happened under the current regime.
