Abel Ferreira has been hit with an eight-match touchline ban, two of which have already been served, after two cases were heard by the STJD last Thursday. The club’s legal department was surprised and is preparing an appeal to the Pleno.

According to Globo.com, his STJD disciplinary record contains 20 entries since late 2020.

Announced on 30 October 2020, he first faced judgment in early November under article 191, sections I to III, related to Covid-19 measures. Palmeiras settled the case with a R$ 20,000 fine.

He has been cited under article 258 on 17 occasions. The first disciplinary case followed a red card in a 3-0 win over Ceará, when referee Bráulio da Silva reported an insult after a penalty decision. Abel denied offending the official and said he was not heard after the match.

Across more than five years at Palmeiras, article 258 and its subsections have brought 22 matches of suspension, with three converted into settlements, meaning 19 were served. He has been acquitted seven times under article 258.

He was also acquitted in single charges under article 243-F, concerning offence to honour, and article 257, concerning involvement in a brawl or tumult. Including last year’s settlement and a donation under article 191, fines total R$ 120,000.
