When you’re frustrated with how Chelsea are performing, there’s nothing better to do than tune in to some ESPN FC and see former Blue Craig Burley laying into his old club.
The pundit was in fine form today as he dissected the defeat to Brighton yesterday. Chelsea even had the lead in the game, but were utterly flaccid after that and let a team that had lost 7-0 just days before come back into the game and win.
It’s all too familiar for Chelsea fans, who have seen this pattern time and again. Burley nailed some of the key points in his summary of the game. The manager’s post game comments didn’t help either.

“Christopher Nkunku up front, I mean what a total waste of money he’s been. And on top of that they are looking a bit fragile at the back,” Burley said.
“The discussion earlier in the season was whether they [Chelsea] could stay in the title race. We kind of expected them to slip but they’ve slipped back into this Graham Potter, Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel pedestrian passing game. 57% possession – way more than Brighton – but what did they do with it? Absolutely nothing.
“There was no cutting edge to the game. Palmer has stopped influencing games like he was,” Burley concluded.
We hate to say it but he’s pretty spot on in all of this. To say this team has regressed to a Graham Potter level is the most painful thing a fan can hear given how awful that spell was for Chelsea fans – but he’s not wrong. This is all eerily familiar.
