According to a report from MARCA, it has come to light that AC Milan have decided to step away from a potential move for Robert Lewandowski, bringing an end to speculation linking the veteran forward with a move to Serie A.

The Italian side had been monitoring Lewandowski’s situation closely amid uncertainty surrounding his future at Barcelona

The Polish striker has been assessing his next step, particularly with no clear progress in contract discussions with the Catalan club.

Recent rumours

Recent developments suggested that Lewandowski was open to a new challenge and had positioned himself as a possible option for Milan.

The idea of joining a historic side aiming for a resurgence made the move appear logical from the player’s perspective.

From Milan’s side, the opportunity was financially attractive as a potential deal could have been structured without a transfer fee, making it a low-risk move for an experienced striker with a proven goal-scoring record.

However, the situation has now shifted.

Milan are out of the race

Milan have grown increasingly frustrated with the lack of clarity surrounding Lewandowski’s decision-making process.

With the player still waiting to resolve his situation at Barcelona, the Italian club has opted not to wait any longer and has redirected their focus towards Alexander Sorloth as an alternative attacking option.

As things stand, Lewandowski has not received any concrete proposal from the club regarding a contract extension.

There has been no formal offer presented, and more notably, no clear communication.

Understandably, this lack of direction has left the striker in a holding pattern.

While he remains open to continuing at Barcelona, the absence of a defined plan from the club has created doubt over his long-term place in the project.

At present, Lewandowski appears to have already lost one suitor, but that does not mean his demand in the market has vanished altogether.

Despite being 37, he is still wanted by a few European giants as well as clubs from Saudi Arabia and the Major League Soccer.
