AC Milan have made preliminary contact with AS Roma striker Artem Dovbyk ahead of a potential move this summer.

Signing a new number nine is high on Milan’s wishlist due to the lack of back-up options for Santiago Gimenez.

The Mexican international has failed to make an impact since his €32 million move from Feyenoord.

Dovbyk is the latest name to emerge on Milan’s wishlist, and he could leave Roma after just one season.

The Ukrainian international burst onto the scene after his stellar 2023/24 season with Girona, where he bagged 24 goals and 10 assists in all competitions.

His exploits earned him a move to Roma, who edged out Atletico Madrid in the transfer race.

However, he couldn’t reach the same heights last season, tallying 17 goals and four assists to help Roma qualify for the Europa League.

Dovbyk’s future at the Stadio Olimpico is hanging in the balance following the arrival of Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson on loan.

Ferguson has been tipped to be the first-choice striker for manager Gian Piero Gasperini, which has fuelled rumours about Dovbyk’s future.

The Giallorossi are willing to part ways with the Ukrainian for a suitable offer. They value the striker at around €40 million, nearly the same fee they had paid for him last summer.

Milan will face competition from Leeds United and West Ham United for Dovbyk’s signing.

Dovbyk is entering the prime years of his career and could be the perfect target man for Massimiliano Allegri’s system.

His aerial ability and hold-up play, combined with his beautiful link-up play and finishing technique, would allow him to flourish at Milan.
