Achraf Hakimi will lodge an appeal to the Court of Cassation after the Versailles appeal court on 19 June upheld his referral to a criminal court over an alleged rape in 2023, which he denies.
AFP reports that a source close to the case said the PSG and Morocco right-back will file the cassation appeal. His lawyer, Me Fanny Colin, declined to comment on Friday, having said in mid-June that her client was firm in his defence and had much to say.
Hakimi has consistently rejected the accusation as false. He had challenged the investigating judge’s February order sending him for trial, and later said he was looking forward to the hearing and that he would finally be able to speak.
The complainant’s lawyer, Me Rachel-Flore Pardo, said all rulings so far had favoured the civil party and that her client would pursue the case to obtain justice.
Speaking on Wednesday in the mixed zone, the 27-year-old said he felt in a very good moment personally and professionally, credited those around him for helping him focus, and hoped to keep it going for as long as possible. He is on World Cup duty with Morocco, who reached the last 16 by beating Haiti 4-2 on Thursday.
