Adam Bareiro says Martín Palermo was pivotal in his revival, crediting the coach for helping him rediscover his scoring touch, a factor in Boca taking notice.
"When he came to Fortaleza I was not doing well. He told me he knew my qualities, that I did not need to prove anything. He gave me confidence and I started scoring again," he told Desde La Boca.
The pair first worked together at Fortaleza in Brazil, where Palermo arrived as head coach to try to stave off relegation. They could not avoid the drop, but his backing lifted Bareiro after a poor spell at River.
"Having him as manager was a privilege. We kept a very good relationship and he was one of the first people I told about joining Boca. He said the Boca world was special and to be ready to enjoy it."
Since arriving at the club, the Paraguayan has 4 goals and 1 assist in 7 games. Boca are buoyed by a recent win over Talleres, with Bareiro among those in form alongside Miguel Merentiel.
Bareiro will start as Boca begin their 2026 Copa Libertadores campaign against Universidad Católica in Group D on Tuesday 7 April at 21:30 at Estadio Claro Arena in Santiago de Chile.
