Vasco face a gruelling two-month stretch after the Copa Sudamericana group draw placed them in Group G. Director of football Admar Lopes has set out how the club will handle the congested calendar.
"Depending on how we are in the Brasileiro, we will decide how to approach the tournament. In April and May, when the group stage is played, the calendar is very demanding. There are nine games in the Brasileiro, six in the Sudamericana and two in the Copa do Brasil. I believe Série A will always be the priority, as we have publicly acknowledged," said director of football Admar Lopes, speaking to ESPN Brasil.
Even with that priority, the club point to their tradition and the obligation to chase the best possible results on the pitch.
"His CV speaks for itself. We are very happy with Renato’s start. Internally we are pleased to have someone like him, with that personality, leadership and, above all, a winning mentality."
Since his arrival, Renato Gaúcho has taken seven points from three matches, earning full backing from the hierarchy.
Attention now turns to stabilising league form and the Sudamericana opener in Buenos Aires against Barracas Central, scheduled between seven and nine April.
