Angola has carved out a discreet yet respected place in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations. Making their first appearance in the final tournament in 1996, the Palancas Negras spent years alternating between absences and early exits before breaking through at the end of the 2000s. Their rise was marked by a quarter-final qualification in 2008, then confirmed two years later during a home-hosted AFCON.
The 2010 edition remains a reference point in collective Angolan memory, both for the organization and the resilience shown on the pitch. Afterwards, the national team experienced inconsistent cycles, struggling to establish themselves among the continent's elite despite occasional qualifications for the finals without real continuity.
However, AFCON 2023 marked a new turning point. By reaching the quarter-finals once again, Angola reminded everyone of their ability to surprise and compete with Africa's top nations. Having qualified for the 2025 edition, the Palancas Negras are now hoping to make this progress last.
