FC Bayern’s goalkeeping situation is coming to a dramatic head ahead of the Champions League second leg against Atalanta Bergamo. But there are now positive signs for Jonas Urbig, of all people. The 22-year-old could return sooner than initially expected
After the 6:1 victory in the first leg in Bergamo, Munich suddenly had major concerns in the goalkeeper position, with several keepers currently not fully available
Jonas Urbig suffered a concussion in the first leg of the round of 16 after colliding with Atalanta striker Nikola Kristovic, and the young goalkeeper has been sidelined ever since
However, there are now many indications that the Bayern keeper could be ready to return in time for the second leg

As reported by BILD, Urbig took an important step on the road back on Monday, with the goalkeeper taking part in team training at Säbener Straße for the first time
In the afternoon, the 22-year-old came out of the dressing room onto the training pitch together with several young goalkeepers. Urbig was joined by campus talents Jannis Bärtl, Leonard Prescott and Leonard Ruland
However, the content of Urbig’s session remained hidden, as the training session took place behind an opaque screen
Nevertheless, his participation in the team session sends a clear signal: two days before the second leg against Atalanta, the goalkeeper could become an option again in time
A quick return to action does not seem to be out of the question from a medical point of view either. Neurologist Prof. Dr. Christoph Kleinschnitz from Essen University Hospital explained that a return after one week is certainly possible. „If nothing is structurally broken and the network was only interrupted for a short time, there is nothing to be said against Urbig returning to action after eight days,“ the expert told BILD
Munich are currently in urgent need of a positive development: Manuel Neuer is still working on his comeback from a torn calf muscle fibre, while Sven Ulreich has also been injured recently
Should Urbig receive the green light from the doctors in time, he should therefore be first choice for the second leg against Atalanta Bergamo.
