After defeat, Corinthians extend two unwanted records against Fortaleza

On the night of last Wednesday (3), Corinthians visited Fortaleza at Arena Castelão, in a match valid for the 37th round of the Brazilian Championship and was defeated by a score of 2-1. The Corinthians goal was scored by midfielder André, halfway through the second half. The result left the Alvinegro in tenth place with 46 points.

In addition to the setback, the Alvinegro extended two negative streaks against Fortaleza. The first concerns Arena Castelão. Corinthians have not beaten Leão at their home in league matches since July 28, 2019, more than six years ago. On that day, Corinthians won 3-1 with goals from Boselli, Pedrinho, and Danilo Avelar. Since then, there have been five Fortaleza wins and one draw—two goals scored and seven conceded.

Another record was also extended. Corinthians have not beaten Fortaleza in the league since May 1, 2022, when they won 1-0 in Itaquera, in the early rounds of the national competition. Since then, there have been four wins for the northeastern team and three draws—four goals scored and eight conceded.

On the other hand, the club from Parque São Jorge still holds a comfortable advantage in the historical record between the teams. In total, there have been 38 matches between the clubs, with 21 wins for Corinthians, ten draws, and eight wins for the team from Ceará—62 goals scored and 33 conceded. With yesterday’s defeat, Fortaleza matched the number of wins in matches between the teams at Castelão.

In total, there have been 18 matches between the teams, with eight wins for Corinthians, two draws, and eight wins for the home team, with 27 goals scored for Timão and 21 for Leão. Now, Corinthians will end their participation in the Brazilian Championship next Sunday (7), at 4pm (Brasília time), against Juventude, at Neo Química Arena.
