Italian football agent Federico Pastorello explained Inter Milan’s stance on veteran defenders Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij.

Recently interviewed by TMW, Pastorello confirmed the Serie A champions are ‘happy’ with their experienced stars.

Both players have had prominent roles under Simone Inzaghi this season.

Indeed, Acerbi had been a first-team regular before sustaining a long-term thigh injury in November.

Stefan de Vrij excelled in the 37-year-old’s absence, cementing his place in the starting line-up.

However, Acerbi is now back, meaning the Dutchman could return to the bench.

Meanwhile, his contract at the San Siro runs out at the end of the season.

The player has reiterated his commitment to the Nerazzurri several times this term and is open to renewal.

As for Acerbi, Inter triggered a short-term extension in his deal earlier in 2024/25.

But after proving unreliable due to his fitness issues, the club will re-evaluate its stance in the coming months.

“They are two extraordinary players who play the same position,” Pastorello said.

“Inter will have to make some evaluations, as both have a renewal option at the club’s discretion.

“From what I hear, Inter is very happy with both of them. Francesco was out for two and a half months, but when he returned, he showed he hadn’t lost his edge.

“Stefan has played ten outstanding matches in a row, proving his high level once again.

“There is also the matter of age and the club’s new strategy focused on investing in younger players.

“However, it’s also true that fans want to win league titles and trophies, and to do that, you need champions – just like these two.

“There’s still time, and I believe a decision will be made by the end of April,” he concluded.
