Agustín Marchesín has suffered a muscle injury and will miss the Superclásico and the start of the Copa Libertadores. Boca’s goalkeeper faces several weeks of recovery at a key point in the campaign.

The club said in a statement that tests after the match against Instituto confirmed the problem. He could not finish the 2-0 win, sealed by Tomás Aranda and Adam Bareiro.

The injury came late on against La Gloria, when he felt an adductor pull. He received treatment and played a few more minutes in visible discomfort, before being forced off. Leandro Brey replaced him.

The setback means Marchesín will miss several important fixtures. First is Talleres, then the Libertadores opener against Universidad Católica. He will also be absent for the Superclásico with River.

Claudio Úbeda has two options to cover the position, youth or experience. Brey is the frontrunner as the second-choice keeper. Javier García offers experience that could be decisive in the Copa.

The coach must choose whether to hand Brey the job or turn to García, who has not played for a long time and was close to leaving, with retirement even discussed.
