AI has named the three EFL clubs where Wayne Rooney would be the perfect fit next
Wayne Rooney is one of, and to some, the greatest British footballer of all time.
His illustrious and highly successful playing career began with his boyhood club Everton, before becoming recognised as one of the world's best with Manchester United, in a career that only a few can come close to matching.
However, the 40-year-old has yet to translate his talents on the pitch into the managerial dugout, with each of his stints on the touchline all ending uninspiringly.
Whilst ending his playing days with Derby County, Rooney transitioned into management with the Rams, with current Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior as his assistant coach. Though with the club in financial turmoil at the time of his reign, he was given the benefit of the doubt upon the club's relegation to League One.
He'd return to the USA with DC United, where he spent one-and-a-half years as a player, this time as their head coach. With a PPG (points per game) of just 1.04 in 53 matches, the former England international was dismissed ahead of his next role with Birmingham City.
With the Blues, it didn't get much better, lasting just three months in charge and winning just two of his 15 games in charge at St Andrew's before his dismissal.
This didn't stop Plymouth Argyle from taking a punt on Rooney; they likely wished they hadn't, with five wins in 25 games before he was once again sacked in December 2024, and has been out of work as a manager since.
Rooney doesn't appear to have called time on his ambitions on the touchline just yet, as FLW has asked AI chatbot ChatGPT to take a look at three EFL clubs that the Merseyside native could be perfect for.

ChatGPT says: Rooney suits a club in transition where expectations are moderate, and he can rebuild a competitive identity with young players rather than deliver immediate promotion.
Blackpool currently find themselves in a relegation battle in League One, with the Tangerines in danger of dropping into the fourth tier of English football for the second time in a decade.
It wasn't too long ago when the West Coast outfit had just secured survival in the Championship, comfortably finishing a whopping 23 points above the drop in the 2021/22 season.
However, since then, it's all been downhill at Bloomfield Road, with the club turning to former player Ian Evatt in the dugout to keep them afloat after Steve Bruce's time in charge came to a disappointing end.
Having failed to succeed as yet in the Championship, it may be wise for Rooney to drop a division or two to work on his coaching abilities, and with Blackpool, he could do exactly that.

ChatGPT says: His name recognition and experience managing under pressure could help galvanise a big-fanbase club aiming to rebuild stability and push back toward the Championship.
Bolton Wanderers have always threatened a return to the second tier ever since their relegation in 2019, though for one reason or another, it has never come to fruition for the Trotters.
Once a club embedded in the Premier League, Bolton's demise over the years even saw them spend a solitary year in League Two, something unacceptable for a club of their stature.
Currently, under the stewardship of former Plymouth Argyle and Stoke City manager Steven Schumacher, automatic promotion this season looks to be a challenge, as both Lincoln City and Cardiff City storm ahead, with the route through the play-offs looking like their best bet at promotion.
Schumacher has come under pressure at numerous stages this season, and should he be dismissed in the near future, Rooney could make a sensational return to Greater Manchester with Bolton.
Taking charge of a club with more resources than most in the third tier could be his best shot at showing exactly what he is capable of, having only ever been in charge of sides with limited finances in precarious positions; Bolton and Rooney could be a match made in heaven.

ChatGPT says: Rooney tends to thrive in intense, fan-driven environments where he can create a siege-mentality culture similar to what he achieved at Derby.
John Mousinho has done extraordinarily well to take Portsmouth from League One obscurity and cemented their status as a Championship side.
However, he has struggled to kick on with Pompey this campaign, albeit they maintain one of the smallest budgets in the entire division.
Should Mousinho lose his job in the near future, with the South Coast outfit embroiled in a relegation battle, Portsmouth could prove to be an excellent option for Rooney, especially if they are indeed relegated.
Rooney will be well aware of the atmosphere at Fratton Park and will recall the years in the Premier League during his playing days.
A side which he can help to rebuild seems like the logical next step in management for Rooney, and Pompey could be the perfect fit.
