Cristiano Ronaldo will miss Al-Nassr’s friendly against Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in Saudi Arabia because of injury, ending hopes of another head-to-head.

According to Sports.ndtv.com, Al-Nassr coach Luis Castro said Ronaldo is in the final stage of recovery and will be absent, adding they hope he can rejoin team training in the next few days.

Al-Nassr had earlier cancelled a planned tour of China amid concerns over the forward’s fitness.

Inter Miami have been in Saudi Arabia for several days. On Monday, Luis Suarez scored his first for the club and Messi also netted in a 4-3 defeat to Al Hilal at Riyadh’s Kingdom Arena.

Aleksandar Mitrovic put Al Hilal ahead on 10 minutes, then Abdullah Al-Hamdan made it 2-0 on 13. Sergio Busquets volleyed over from close range before Julian Gressel teed up Suarez after Jordi Alba’s pass, a goal awarded after a VAR check.

A minute before half-time, Michael headed in Al Hilal’s third from Al-Hamdan’s cross. After the break, Messi converted a 54th-minute penalty following a harsh call against Mohammed Jahfali on David Ruiz, then found Ruiz for 3-3 moments later.

Malcom settled it with an 88th-minute header. The match was another stop on Miami’s globe-trotting pre-season tour before Major League Soccer begins on February 21.
