Alarm for Valencia as Thierry injured, Renzo Saravia makes debut | OneFootball

Valencia’s right flank was thrust into focus as Thierry suffered an early injury against Mallorca and Renzo Saravia made his debut.

In the 10th minute the Portuguese full-back went to ground and called for treatment, suggesting his evening would be short. According to Superdeporte, he has spent 587 days sidelined, missing 77 matches.

No official medical update has been issued on tonight’s problem. His injuries have included muscular issues, a sprain, calf problems and illness. The most serious was a ruptured cruciate ligament last season, which kept him out for 310 days and cost 36 matches.

Thierry joined Valencia in the 2019/2020 season for 12 million from Sporting CP. The move was contentious as a detected hip discrepancy was known at the time, a factor seen as influential in his subsequent setbacks.

Right-back has looked cursed at Valencia. The club signed Renzo Saravia in February after Dimitri Foulquier sustained a serious injury to his left knee. With Thierry now injured again, Valencia are left with Saravia as the only natural right-back in the squad.
