Alavés have moved swiftly to appoint Quique Sánchez Flores for the run-in, with the side only two points above safety. According to Superdeporte, an agreement is in place and he has accepted, with the handover due in the coming hours.
His start will be anything but serene. Alavés visit Mestalla on Sunday in what shapes as a major survival showdown with Valencia.
Carlos Corberán’s team have a little more breathing space and could make a near decisive step towards safety if they take all three points.
For Sánchez Flores it is also a return to familiar ground. He managed Valencia from 2005 to 2008 and retains a strong bond with the home support.
He will be applauded at Mestalla before a tense and consequential encounter for both sides.
