According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, it has come to light that Alaves are all set to face disciplinary action after offensive chants directed at Real Madrid centre-back Raul Asencio during their recent 0-1 home defeat.

It must be noted that the incident, which occurred in the second half of the match, was ultimately noted by the referee, Soto Grado, in his match report and this incident is expected to result in a financial penalty for the team from Vitoria.

Yesterday’s win for Real Madrid had no shortage of drama. While much of the attention was grabbed by Kylian Mbappe’s sending off, the referee’s post-match report also highlighted the abusive behaviour from a section of the Alaves supporters.

Eventually, it was in the 70th minute that the official was forced to stop play after repeated verbal abuse was heard from the stands.

What did the referee report?

In the report, the referee mentioned that the match was paused to exercise La Liga’s protocol for handling fan misconduct.

“In the 70th minute of the match, we implemented the protocol for addressing verbal abuse, halting the match and requesting the Field Delegate to use the PA system to stop the insults and chants being used by a section of the home fans, identified by their shirts and scarves, against a visiting player.

“Among the insults and chants, we were able to identify the following: “Asencio, die,” “Asencio, scum, get out of Vitoria,” read the report.

For what it is worth, with regard to the established regulations, the Disciplinary Committee is most likely to fine Alaves and judging by the previous cases, the fine is likely to be minor but symbolic, with the amount possibly reaching €600.

For now, neither Real Madrid nor Asencio has made any kind of public statements, but the incident certainly adds to the tension surrounding the defender’s public image in Spain.
