Albion’s Second Tier Season Comparison – 12 games

A third successive defeat on the road for Ryan Mason’s team was particularly disappointing given the error that led to the winning goal in a game that neither side deserved to win. It leaves the Baggies in 11th spot and with only one clean sheet in their last eight matches, but it is the lack of chances created that is the biggest worry for Mason and his coaching team at present.

It is the first time that Albion have lost five of their first dozen games in a second tier season since 1998 when Denis Smith’s side fell away after their own promising start when they had ten points from the opening four games before losing 5-1 at Grimsby Town. Game 12 saw them lose at home to Sunderland despite Lee Hughes scoring a brace to take his tally to 14 for the season.
