According to Talksport, UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin would like a boycott of the 2029 Club World Cup and plans talks with Nasser al-Khelaïfi amid his dispute with FIFA chief Gianni Infantino.

Infantino is viewed as vulnerable after his abandoned attempt to privatise part of the World Cup.

Ceferin plans to raise the issue during the UEFA Super Cup between Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa on 12 August. Al-Khelaïfi chairs Paris Saint-Germain and European Football Clubs, EFC.

The pair collaborated in 2021 when the Super League project was blocked.

For an EFC-backed boycott to proceed, all 850 member teams would have to agree. The 2029 host has not yet been decided.

Infantino and FIFA hope to expand the tournament to 48 teams and to introduce a women’s edition. Should Infantino depart, Ceferin is not considering a run for the FIFA presidency, but he would back al-Khelaïfi if he stands.
