Mateu Alemany has delivered a priority for Diego Pablo Simeone, with Atlético Madrid confirming on Saturday the signing of Kang In Lee from Paris Saint-Germain to fill the playmaker role left by Antoine Griezmann.

The club said in a statement that a 40 million deal, 35 fixed plus five in add-ons, has been agreed with PSG, and that the 25-year-old South Korean has signed to 30 June 2031. A left-footer, he can operate centrally or from either flank.

Born on 19 February 2001, he joined Valencia’s academy at 10 and debuted for the first team on 30 October 2018 in a Copa del Rey campaign they won, playing six ties. He made 62 appearances before moving to Real Mallorca in August 2021, featuring 73 times across two seasons, then joined PSG in summer 2023.

At PSG he played 124 games, scored 16 goals and supplied 16 assists, winning two Champions Leagues, the European Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup, plus three Ligue 1 titles, two French Cups and two French Super Cups.

He led South Korea to runners-up at the 2019 Under-20 World Cup, taking the Golden Ball, and won Asian Games gold in 2023 as the under-23s beat Japan 2-1. A senior international since 5 September 2019, he now has 50 caps, the latest at the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. Simeone and Alemany still plan further arrivals and possible exits, with offers in for players short of minutes.
