The Parteneopei were in talks with Meret for a long time to tie him to a new deal, with his previous deal expiring at the end of the month.

The Italian shot-stopper will earn around €2.5 million per year in his new contract.

Meret has featured in 212 games for Napoli since joining them in 2018.

He has established himself as one of the best keepers in the Italian top flight, playing a pivotal role in two Serie A titles in the last three years.

The 28-year-old kept a league-high 17 clean sheets for Napoli en route to the Scudetto triumph last season.

He also made 61 saves and helped the Partenopei concede the fewest goals in the league (25).

Meret will be looking to continue his fine form next season as Antonio Conte’s side prepare for the Champions League.

Napoli are among the busiest sides in the transfer window, having already completed the blockbuster signing of Kevin De Bruyne.

More high-profile players continue to get linked as Conte has been backed with a big transfer budget to build a formidable squad.

The Neapolitans are currently working on a deal for PSV Eindhoven winger Noa Lang, with whom they have a verbal agreement in place.

Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez remains their dream target, but the Uruguayan’s €70 million price tag is proving to be a stumbling block.

The Italian champions are also in talks to sign Napoli duo Sam Beukema and Dan Ndoye and Sevilla right-back Juanlu Sanchez.
