Alexander Isak has undergone successful surgery on an ankle injury that includes a fractured fibula.
The club said in a statement that no specific timeline has been set, and the striker could be out for several months.
Isak was forced off on Saturday after giving Liverpool the lead in a 2-1 victory at Tottenham.
The injury followed his opener after a tackle by Micky Van de Ven.
Isak, 26, joined Liverpool this summer for €150 million. Since arriving on Merseyside he has scored three goals, two in the Premier League and one in the League Cup.
