Alexandre Golovine is resurgent for Monaco ahead of Marseille on Sunday, yet his near eight year stay has swung between injuries and flashes of brilliance.

Back from an autumn thigh injury that cost about 10 matches, he has reclaimed a starting place. Over his last seven league games he has two goals and four assists, and he reckons he is close to 100% fitness.

Coach Sébastien Pocognoli says daily consistency has made him more decisive. That spell also brought two quick red cards, at Nantes on 13 February, then Paris Saint-Germain four days later in the Champions League, before a 3-2 first-leg defeat with Paris a man up after the break.

Signed in 2018 after Dmitry Rybolovlev beat strong competition, he has missed more than 50 games and is now on his seventh coach. His Monaco record is 262 matches, 38 goals and 46 assists, and he is among the club’s top three earners at about €320,000 a month.

"It will soon be eight years and I still miss Russia, my home and my friends. After football I do not see myself in a big, hectic city. Siberia is a place that interests me."
