Just days before their debut in the 2025 AFCON, Algeria's national team heads into the tournament boosted by a key indicator: the FIFA rankings. Quietly but surely, the Fennecs have climbed one spot, closing out 2025 in 34th place worldwide—a symbolic rise that highlights their renewed momentum, even though they haven't claimed a continental title since 2019.
Released this Monday, the FIFA rankings factor in results from the Arab Cup and 42 international fixtures played in recent weeks. With 1517.68 points, Algeria slightly increases its total and secures a spot on the African podium, trailing only Morocco and Senegal, and edging out Egypt, Nigeria, and Tunisia. This achievement is even more impressive considering the reigning African champions, Ivory Coast, are further down the list.
This upward movement also stems from Algeria’s recent well-managed friendly outings, confirming a certain stability in both play and results. On the global stage, Spain holds onto the top spot, ahead of Argentina and France. For Algeria, this ranking is an encouraging sign ahead of an AFCON where every official match will carry significant weight on the international stage.
