AFCON 2025 will take place without Houssem Aouar. Present at Sidi Moussa and still involved in training on the eve of departure for Rabat, the Algerian midfielder was ultimately forced to withdraw due to a persistent groin injury—a tricky setback with an unpredictable recovery timeline.

Having returned to Saudi Arabia, Aouar was not included in the Al Ittihad Club squad for their AFC Champions League match against Nasaf. At a press conference, his coach Sérgio Conceição confirmed the situation:

"Houssem Aouar is indeed injured and unavailable for the match against Nasaf. We wish him a speedy recovery and hope to see him back as soon as possible. The decision to recall him was made jointly by the national team's medical staff and the club's medical team."

At 27, the player sees a second AFCON slip away. The focus now shifts to a full recovery, aiming for a strong second half of the season and, further ahead, the major target of the 2026 World Cup.
