Valencia have confirmed the signing of Aliou Dieng, the Mali midfielder, after his Al Ahly contract expired. He was announced yesterday as part of Carlos Corberán’s squad.
According to Superdeporte, the arrival completes Corberán’s midfield and changes are unlikely unless there are departures. Dieng adds physical and defensive ballast, and caught the eye on arrival at Manises airport.
Following the signing of Guido Rodríguez, the No six duties will be shared by the Argentine, Dieng and Pepelu. Pepelu has also often operated alongside a positional pivot.
At No eight, options include Pepelu, Filip Ugrinic, André Almeida, for whom an exit is again being sought this summer, and Javi Guerra, though the plan is to use him higher.
In the No 10 role, choices are Javi Guerra and Ryunosuke Sato, a recent arrival from Japan. Corberán has also at times used a direct winger centrally, as with Largie Ramazani.
With two recent arrivals confirmed, Valencia’s focus turns to other areas. Right-back is the priority, with Thomas Meunier viewed as a strong candidate to join, and reinforcements on the wings are also pressing. Outgoings lag behind, as several players attract limited interest and carry wages beyond clubs at a similar level.
