Ranking the teams competing in League Two next season by the market value of their first team squads

Salford City, Grimsby Town and Chesterfield were among the clubs to narrowly miss out on promotion from League Two in 2025/26.

The trio will all be looking to go one step further next year after losing in the play-offs, but they will be joined by Port Vale, Rotherham United, Exeter City and Northampton Town in the division after the quarter suffered relegation.

Rochdale and York City have also earned their place in the league after they won promotion from the National League, and it could now be quite a competitive season ahead.

Here we rank the teams in League Two from 24-1 based on their current squad value (all figures taken from Transfermarkt).

24 ? ? Rochdale

Rochdale earned promotion from the National League in dramatic fashion, beating Scunthorpe in the final after coming second in the table.

Their squad value going into the summer is just roughly £43,000, putting them bottom of the League Two table for squad value.

23 ? ? York City

York City gained promotion from the National League with a 1-1 draw away to Rochdale on the final day of the season, with the team winning the title in the process.

But their squad is valued at just £108,000, with the transfer market set to open later this month.

Shrewsbury Town came 19th in the table last season, so will be hoping for better things in 2026/27, with a current squad value of around £2.1 million.

Their most valuable player is Sam Stubbs, with a current value of around £260,000.

Accrington Stanley finished 16th in the League Two table last season, and will now be looking to the summer transfer window in order to bridge the gap to the top half teams.

Their squad is currently valued at £2.23 million, with Farrend Rawson their most valuable player at a figure of £260,000.

Newport County avoided relegation by just four points in 2025/26 as they finished 20th in the table, and they will now go into the summer with a squad valued at £2.29 million.

Their most valuable player is currently defender Matthew Baker, at a figure of £260,000.

19 ? ? Oldham Athletic

Oldham Athletic were one of the clubs in the mix for a top seven finish, but ultimately fell short by 10 points as they came 10th in the table.

The club’s squad is now valued at £2.55 million ahead of the transfer market opening, with defender Jamie Robson their most prized asset at £260,000.

18 ? ? Cheltenham Town

Cheltenham Town avoided relegation by 13 points as they finished 18th in the table in 2025/26 and they are now preparing for the new campaign with a squad value of £2.55 million.

Their most prized asset is currently Isaac Hutchinson, with the midfielder valued at £345,000.

Tranmere Rovers only avoided the drop out of League Two by two points, coming 21st in the table with a squad currently valued at £2.92 million.

Their highest value player is Nathan Smith, with the defender worth £240,000.

Colchester United finished 12th in the League Two table, earning 66 points, 12 fewer than seventh place Grimsby Town, with a squad value of £3.09 million.

The most valued member of Danny Cowley’s side is Arthur Read, with the midfielder worth £300,000.

Barnet just missed out on a play-off place by two points despite winning their last five games in a row, and they will now go into the transfer market with a squad value of £3.14 million.

The League Two side will be hoping to improve the squad in order to make up the gap to the top seven, as they eye promotion to League One.
