All ready for our competitive opener

First round of cup on Saturday in Oberhausen

Football is back! To kick off the new season, the first round of the UNIQA ÖFB Cup takes us to Burgenland this Saturday, July 25th, where we'll face regional league side SV Klöcher Bau Oberwart at 18:00 CEST. Even though we're playing away, we're eager to debut our new 2026/27 home kit. However, caution is advised, as our opponents have already proven they can give higher-division teams a run for their money.

Last year, the Burgenland side certainly put up a strong showing in the ÖFB Cup. In the first round, Oberwart thrashed ATSV Wolfsberg 7-0, before facing Bundesliga side SK Rapid. Coach Gernot Plassnegger's team put up a valiant fight there as well. Despite being clear underdogs, they only narrowly lost 1-2 to the Viennese side.

By the way: We're not the only ones facing a long away trip (784 kilometres). In total, the 32 away teams in the first round of the cup will travel around 15,280 kilometers! The prize for the longest round trip goes to SCR Altach, who have a 1,270-kilometre journey to Leobendorf.

It's great that it's finally getting going. I think the last few weeks have been very intense, and the lads have been really committed. We've covered a lot of ground, achieved some pretty good results in our friendlies, and are very satisfied overall. Now we're just happy that it's finally beginning. We want to play games, we want competition, and we want to be successful. We're facing opponents who will give it their all, play with great emotion, and make life difficult for us.
