Ex-Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri insists it wasn’t Cristiano Giuntoli’s fault if the Bianconeri sacked him in May and jokes that he didn’t join a Premier League club because of the ‘English Channel.’

Former Juventus coach Allegri, currently without a club, released a brief interview with the satirical TV program Striscia La Notizia in Italy.

The Livorno-born coach reiterated that he’s “doing well on holiday” and denied that Juventus sacked him in May because of Managing Director Giuntoli. “Not at all,” he said (via Corriere della Sera).

“I have a solid bond with my ex-team and always wish them the best.”

The 57-year-old suggested he hasn’t watched much football lately, opting for tennis and Italian star Jannik Sinner instead.

“I went to watch the ATP Finals, and I had so much fun; Jannik is a fantastic player and a nice lad.”

Allegri was one of the coaches linked with the Manchester United job a few weeks ago, before Ruben Amorim’s appointment at Old Trafford.

It wasn’t the first time the Italian tactician had been linked with a job in the Premier League, so he joked about why he’s never joined an English club.

“There was the English Channel and the sea in between,” he concluded, smiling.

“I didn’t have the water wings to swim till there.”

Allegri had one year left in his Juventus contract when the Bianconeri sacked him in May. He’s been replaced by Thiago Motta, who has signed a three-year deal at the Allianz Stadium.
