Almada could extend long list of Flamengo and Atlético de Madrid deals | OneFootball

Thiago Almada is in talks that could extend Flamengo’s transfer links with Atlético de Madrid. According to Globo.com, Flamengo are aligned with Atlético and the player’s representative and now await Almada’s approval after his World Cup campaign, with a response expected in the coming days. Atlético have made him available after he lost his place.

It would be far from the first deal between the clubs, whose trading history stretches from Ubaldo Fillol to Samuel Lino.

Lino joined in July last year for about €22 million plus bonuses, a club-record fee, after being named Atlético’s best player in 2023/24. This season he has six goals and nine assists in 32 matches for Flamengo.

Midfielder Saúl left early, ending an Atlético contract that ran to mid-2026 after a loan at Sevilla, to sign for Flamengo. He had agreed a move to Trabzonspor in Türkiye, then withdrew. In 2019 Filipe Luís also switched from Atlético, then won two Brasileiros, two Libertadores and other domestic honours.

Going the other way, Fillol played for Flamengo in 1984-85, then joined Atlético in 1985 and won that year’s Spanish Supercopa. Juninho Paulista, owned by Atlético, arrived on loan after spells at Middlesbrough and Vasco, with the lure of the Copa Libertadores following Flamengo’s Copa dos Campeões triumph the previous season.

Paraguayan centre-back Carlos Gamarra signed from Atlético in 2000 for US$5.6 million, roughly US$10.8 million today, about R$55 million. The 1998 World Cup’s best defender later lifted the 2001 Carioca and Copa dos Campeões with Flamengo.
