Overnight at the World Cup, Morocco and Brazil strengthened their bids to reach the last 16, while Miguel Almiron was sent off and Türkiye went out.

According to L'Équipe, Morocco edged Scotland 1-0 to briefly lead Group C before Brazil’s 3-0 over Haiti, which eliminated Haiti and left Brazil needing only a point to qualify.

Paraguay beat Türkiye 1-0 with a goal after just 64 seconds. Despite playing with an extra man and dominating throughout, Türkiye could not find a response and are heading home, while Paraguay revived their campaign.

Almiron received the tournament’s first red card for covering his mouth while speaking to a Turkish opponent in first-half stoppage time, 45+3. He will be suspended against Australia.

Neymar, 34, is yet to feature after injury and could return in Brazil’s third match. Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti said Neymar would train alone on Saturday, then with the squad on Monday, and be available to face Scotland.

Morocco completed 601 passes, the most by an African team at a World Cup since 1966. Brahim Diaz set up Ismael Saibari to score inside 80 seconds as the Atlas Lions impressed again.

Tonight’s fixtures: Germany v Ivory Coast at 22:00, Ecuador v Curaçao at 02:00, Tunisia v Japan at 06:00.
