Xabi Alonso has overseen an extraordinary turnaround at Bayer Leverkusen since taking charge on 5 October 2022 - but don't just take our word for it, here are the stats to prove it!

0 - In 2023/24, Leverkusen became the first team in Bundesliga history to go a whole season with zero losses.
1st – Leverkusen won the Bundesliga title for the first time in the club's history in 2023/24.
1 - Die Werkself were in pole position at the end of 30 of the 34 completed Bundesliga matchdays in 2023/24 - likewise a club record.
2 – Alonso is just the second Spaniard to take charge of a Bundesliga club as head coach, after Pep Guardiola at Bayern Munich.
2.2 – Alonso’s points-per-game average of 2.2 is the best of any coach in Leverkusen’s history. Only former Bayern bosses Carlo Ancelotti, Pep Guardiola and Hansi Flick - as well as current coach Vincent Kompany - have managed more. His goals-per-game average - while also stands at 2.2 - is also the best of any coach in Leverkusen’s history.
3 – Alonso has won three trophies as Leverkusen boss (2023/24 Bundesliga and DFB Cup, plus 2024 Supercup), which is more than the club had ever won before (1992/93 DFB Cup and 1987/88 UEFA Cup).
7 – Die Werkself won a club record seven consecutive away games under Alonso in 2023/24.
9 – Alonso is just the ninth person to win the Bundesliga as both a player and a coach, after Hansi Flick, Niko Kovač, Thomas Schaaf, Matthias Sammer, Franz Beckenbauer, Felix Magath, Jupp Heynckes and Helmut Benthaus.

10 – Leverkusen set a club record of 10 consecutive wins between Matchdays 20 and 29 in 2023/24.
17 – When Alonso took over the reins at Leverkusen in October 2022 they were in 17th place in the table. They ended the 2022/23 campaign in sixth, and have only gone upwards ever since.
24 - Leverkusen only conceded 24 goals in their invincible 2023/24 Bundesliga season - a new club record.
32 - Leverkusen are unbeaten in their last 32 away games - a feat that no Bundesliga coach other than Alonso has achieved.
35 - Leverkusen remained unbeaten in the Bundesliga for 35 consecutive games, from the first matchday of 2023/24 to the first matchday of 2024/25 inclusive - a new club record.
45 - Leverkusen also set new single-season club records for away wins (14) and points earned away from home (45) in 2023/24.
51 - Leverkusen set a new European record for the longest unbeaten sequence by going 51 games without defeat in all competitions (42 wins, nine draws). Their overall record in 2023/24 read 43 wins, nine draws and one loss.
66 – Alonso’s win ratio now stands at 66 percent. Only four permanent coaches (excluding caretakers) have ever had a better tally in Bundesliga history, and all of them were at Bayern: Guardiola (80 percent), Flick (78 percent), Kompany (74 percent) and Carlo Ancelotti (73 percent). Alonso contributed to those numbers for Guardiola and Ancelotti as a player.
89 - Alonso's side scored 89 times in their title-winning season - a new club record.
90 - Leverkusens total of 90 points accumulated in their last Bundesliga season was also a club record and the joint-second highest of any team after Bayern's treble winners of 2012/13 (91).
137 - In his 137 competitive matches as Leverkusen coach to date, Alonso has recorded 88 wins, 31 draws (the penalty shootout win against Stuttgart in the Supercup is statistically counted as a draw) and only 18 defeats.
202 - Leverkusen have won 202 points from 91 Bundesliga games under Alonso - only Bayern, with 203, have picked up more across the same period.
309 - In Alonso's 137 competitive matches at the helm, Die Werkself have scored 309 goals and conceded 147.
2026 – At the start of August 2023, Alonso extended his contract at Leverkusen until 2026.
