One of the primary positions that Ruben Amorim needed to upgrade in the summer was that of the goalkeeper.
Andre Onana had proven to be a major liability ever since former manager Erik ten Hag signed him for Manchester United as David de Gea’s replacement.
As a result, the head coach opted to start the new season with backup goalkeeper Altay Bayindir in goal. Safe to say, the move did not work out.
The 27-year-old started in each of the first six Premier League games of the campaign, conceding 11 goals in the process while failing to keep a single clean sheet.
Not only that, but the Turk was at fault for the goal that cost the Red Devils an opening day victory against Arsenal.
With Onana letting the team down in the EFL Cup, INEOS were forced to dip into the market to find a viable solution, and in came Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp.
Since the Belgian’s arrival, the Turkiye international has had to be content with only a watching brief from the bench, while the Cameroonian was loaned out to Trabzonspor.
With Lammens impressing in every outing, there does not seem to be much scope for Altay Bayindir to impress the Portuguese tactician.
With the World Cup coming up next year, the Turkiye international is desperate to reclaim his country’s No.1 jersey.
As a result, he is open to leaving in January in search of regular minutes, with Turkish side Besiktas chasing his signature as per Turkish Football.
Interestingly, the report also suggests that United remain open to letting the former Fenerbahce man go mid-season.
“Determined to arrest a disappointing run of form, Beşiktaş is preparing a major squad overhaul for the upcoming winter transfer window.
“Club management has reportedly received a detailed recruitment list, with Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayındır emerging as the primary target to take over the No. 1 spot, sources have told Turkish-Football.
“Altay Bayındır has skyrocketed to the top of that list. The Turkish international has endured a frustrating spell in England, struggling to secure playing time at Manchester United.
“Sources suggest Bayındır is eager to depart Old Trafford in search of regular first-team football to protect his status with the national team.
“Reports from Manchester indicate that the “Red Devils” are prepared to listen to offers for the 27-year-old shot-stopper.”
Altay Bayindir has a current market value of €7 million. INEOS will do well to earn more than that. They also need to find adequate cover before sanctioning a sale.
Tom Heaton remains on the club’s books, while Radek Vitek is impressing on loan. Whether he will be recalled remains to be seen.
